You will find Mapua Heights Cottage in Mahana, which means 'warm place' in Maori. It is situated on Old Coach Road, which is quiet and elevated with magnificent views towards Tasman Bay and also westward to Mount Arthur and the Kahurangi National Park.

The cottage is a convenient 5 minutes drive to Mapua, and is 25 minutes from Nelson City to the East and the Abel Tasman National Park to the West. The town of Richmond is 15 mins away and has larger supermarkets, both mall and main street shopping, excellent cafes and restaurants, the ASB aquatic centre and gym and most services. Motueka is only 12 mins away along the new Ruby Bay bypass and has its own unique feel. Again it has supermarkets and varied shopping in the town centre and boasts two picture theatres, the State cinema in the recreation centre and the friendly independent Gecko Theatre.

It is 20 minutes from the cottage to Nelson airport which has frequent flights to New Zealand's main centres, such as Wellington (35 minutes), Christchurch (50 minutes) and Auckland (75 minutes).

For those travelling by road to or from the North Island there is a car and passenger ferry between Picton (in the Marlborough Sounds) and Wellington. The drive from Picton to Mapua is approximately 2.5 hours.
